RS RAS Academic Council regular meeting
On September 26, 2018, the regular meeting of RS RAS Academic Council took place. During the meeting, the Thesis of Sagynbek ORUNBAYEV, who are seeking for Candidate of Physics and Mathematics scientific degree, was reviewed. The leading organization – RS RAS – prepared the report on the thesis reviewed.
The topic of Thesis is "IMPROVEMENT of METHODS for SEISMIC HAZARD ASSESSMENT IN TERMS OF SOME AREAS of KYRGYZSTAN»
Specialty: 25.00.10-Geophysics, geophysical methods of mineral prospecting
Thesis was prepared by Sagynbek Orunbayev in the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG)
Supervisor: Leading researcher of the Institute of Earthquake Prediction Theory and Mathematical Geophysics of RAS, Dr. of Physics and Mathematics Rodkin M. V.
Leading organization: the Research Station RAS in Bishkek city.
In August and September of 2018, the joint field study on the basis of Research Station RAS in Bishkek city with participation of staff members of GIN RAS, Moscow (Alekseev D.V.), St. Petersburg State University (Hudolya A.K., Moskalenko A.N., Kushnareva A.V.) and A.P. Karpinsky Russian Geological Research Institute (VSEGEI) (Tolmacheva T.Yu.) was conducted. This works were aimed to study stratigraphy, geochronology and structural evolution of Precambrian and early Paleozoic complexes of the Northern Tien Shan. As a result, the detailed structural characteristic of a mesoproterozoic Kochkor complex and its analogs in Talas district, early Paleozoic ensembles of Aktyuz, Makbalsk and Talas complexes were obtained and conodont fauna age of siliceous and volcanic series of an early Paleozoic Kyrgyz Terskeysky sutura zone were specified. In order to conduct geochronological, paleontologic, geochemical and structural, geological studies the set of samples was collected and passed to GIN RAS laboratories, VSEGEI and St.Petersburg State University for processing.
On September 21, 2018, twenty 1 – 3 year students and their lecturers of Physics and Electronics Departments of the Kyrgyz National University had an introductory tour around the territory of the Research Station. This excursion was organized under the Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the Research Station of Russian Academy of Sciences and Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn.
The excursion started with RS RAS Director Dr. Anatoly Rybin’s presentation, in which he highlighted the main milestones of establishment and activity of Research Station. Then the guests got the opportunity to know more about five RS RAS laboratories activities (Laboratory of Integrated Studies of Dynamic Processes in Geophysical Fields (LIS), Laboratory of Studying Modern Movements of the Earth’s Crust by Space Geodesy (LGPS), The Laboratory of Deep Magnetotelluric Studies (LDMS), Laboratory of Advanced Hardware Development (LAHD), Laboratory of Energy-Saturated Media Simulation (LESMS). Heads and staff members of laboratories told guests about the tasks and important results of the laboratories activity in popular manner. KNU students showed keen interest and desire to participate in scientific events organized by Research Station in future.
Dr. Anatoly Rybin, Director of Research Station, took part in 24th EM Induction Workshop (EMIW2018), which took place in Helsinger, Denmark, 13-20 August 2018.
Dr. Anatoly Rybin presented poster report:
A. Rybin, E. Bataleva, Yu. Morozov, M. Leonov, E. Przhiyalgovski3, V. Matukov and O. Zabinyakova Zones of concentrated deformation in the Central Tien Shan: geoelectric images and tectonic interpretation.
The results obtained within RSF project №16-17-10059 implementation were observed in above mentioned paper.
Abstract:
In the paper results of the detailed magnetotelluric soundings executed for the last years in the territory of the Central Tien Shan and focused on the study of the concentrated deformation zones are presented. Parameters of detailed geoelectric sections of Kochkor, Naryn and Atbashi intermountain basins are discussed in the sense of their tectonic interpretation. New tectonic constrains, based on a complex interpretation of the upper crust structure of the investigated areas, including structural geology study of the Cenozoic sedimentary cover, the crustal geoelectric sections, the structural unconformities and occurrences of recent deformations in the basement rocks, are revealed.
The geoelectric model of the southern margin of the Kochkor basin reflects the complex system of folded and fault structures of this tectonic zone. The geometry and allocation of conducting zones in the geoelectric structure may indicate that, deformation of basement surface was mostly ductile and now is manifested in the tectonic structure by folds with oversteep basement/sediment stratigraphic and complex structure of basement block surfaces within the basin.
Geological and structural field works in Talas - Fergana fault zone were performed by the joint scientific team of Research Station of RAS and the University Rennes, France.
In July of this year the next geological and structural field works in a zone of Talas-Fergana fault has been successfully completed. Marc Jolivet - the vice-director of the University Rennes (France), staff members Julien Morin and Gwladys Jolivet, employees of Research Station RAS Aleksandr Dzalba and driver Evgeny Ispolinov participated in this field works.
These works were performed under the Agreement on scientific and technical collaboration, which was signed in September 2015 between the Research Station RAS, IRC-GPG and the University Rennes, France, (Geosciences Rennes, Rennes France).
Within above-mentioned Agreement the following activities are expected:
This Agreement promotes scientific cooperation between its participants in the course of solving fundamental problems of modern geodynamics of Central Asian continental lithosphere different segments, and topical applied problems of assessment the degree of orogenic territories and adjacent areas tectonic activity.
Within the works in Yarkand-Fergana basin the following scientific objectives have been appointed to 2018:
Similar works are planned also to the summer of 2019.
