The laboratory was separated from the department of experimental geophysical research of the Scientific Station OIVTRAN. The main objective of the lab is to study dynamic processes in different geophysical fields, their relation to particular tectonic structures and deformation processes determining seismic conditions both in the territory of Bishkek proving ground and its surroundings.

Historically, the lab continues to solve the problem formulated on the base of studying the changes of electric properties of rocks at different levels of the earth’s crust at the depths of up to 25 km at Bishkek proving ground. For this purpose, we use deep electromagnetic soundings by the method of transient electromagnetic sounding (TEM) at a remote point. For the excitation of alternating electromagnetic field we use the electropulse system РГУ-600 with the power of up to 300 KVA, loaded to an electric dipole 4.5 km long. The medium responses to electromagnetic excitation are received by the network of 23 receiving sites located in the center of Bishkek proving ground using the digital receiving stations of КИЦ-М и КИЦ-МА type.

Operating electromagnetic observations were expanded by geomagnetic observations at the same network. Geomagnetic field is recorded by proton precision station МВ-07. Electromagnetic and geomagnetic observations at Research Station trace their roots to 1982 and are carried out presently.

Since 1991, we carry out seismological observations through a detailed network of wide-band digital telemetric KNET stations. At the same time, we study the detailed spatio-temporal allocation of earthquakes both at Bishkek proving ground and its adjacent areas. We also conduct extra investigations into the allocation of seismotectonic deformations within the given seismological network.

We collect and analyze seismological information from all available sources to analyze how seismic events are allocated in the region. Given analysis provides information on active seismogenerating zones and their relation to dynamic processes in the local zone of Bishkek proving ground.

It is clear that to find the relationship between regional seismic process and processes in local zones, and also to study their evolution, it is not enough to use only seismological data. That is why, since 2000, the lab collects and analyzes all available geophysical information both for Central Asia and, in a number of cases, for the whole area of the high-mountain Asia. The information is available from air- and satellite magnetics, gravitational survey, deep seismic sounding, seismotopography and the data on mechanisms of the focuses of the largest earthquakes.

Since 2000, investigations are supplemented with processing and analyzing the digital relief maps. According to the pioneering experience, in number of cases the interpretation and understanding of dynamic processes is eased by the analysis of features of relief structure in different frequency bands. Here we use current data and, in several cases, we need an independent digitization of topographic maps.
