Results of RS RAS activity - for the Russian Science Day

   Traditionally, February 8 is celebrated as the Day of Russian Science - a holiday dedicated to the date of the Russian Academy of Sciences foundation, established by Peter the First in 1724.

   On the eve of such important date for the entire Russian scientific community, as well as on the eve of the anniversary year of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Research Station of the Russian Academy of Sciences sums up the results of 2022.


   According to the results of R&D 2022, two most important results were obtained:

1. A new measuring "strategy" in the method of electrotomography was proposed and its performance was evaluated using a model experiment (synthetic data);

2. Identified pre-seismic correlated anomalies of spatial and temporal temperature changes in the lower atmosphere and the total electron content of the ionosphere.

   Of course, the list of results obtained by the RS RAS staff in 2022 is not limited to the above two, and a more extended idea of RS RAS findings can be obtained from the scientific papers published this year in highly ranked Russian and foreign journals and in the proceedings of international conferences. 

   Also in 2022, the joint scientific workshop of Institute of Physics of Earth of RAS and RS RAS "Geological and Geophysical Monitoring of Tien Shan Lithosphere" continued its work. 23 online meetings were held at the workshop in 2022 to discuss new results, methods and problems of geological and geophysical monitoring of modern geodynamic processes, study of physical and chemical properties of rocks, the stress-strain state of the Earth's crust in seismically active regions and other topical issues in the field of Earth sciences and related fields of theoretical and experimental physics.


   As part of the state assignment, in order to replenish the databases of field data, during 2022 the RS RAS researchers and engineers carried out field observations by methods of magnetotelluric sounding and electrotomography, seismoacoustic, geomagnetic, GPS and light-daler observations in the Tien Shan, as well as continued work on the development and improvement of our own equipment for electromagnetic observations.


   We would like to note the work of RS RAS staff within the framework of research projects funded by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Russian Science Foundation. In 2022 we continued the research under grant RFBR № 20-05-00475 "Theory and practice of creation of the system of seismo-electromagnetic monitoring of geodynamic activity of the Tien Shan lithosphere" (supervisor Ph.-M. Rybin A.K.). Also we began research work on the project "Study of the internal structure and dynamics of active geological faults using electromagnetic sounding complex (on the example of the Northern Tien Shan)" (Dr. Rybin A.K., Head), supported by the Russian Science Foundation (grant № 22-27-00567).


   In order to strengthen existing and develop new international relations, in April 2022 the Research Station of RAS and the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University concluded an agreement to establish a joint scientific non-commercial unit - High Mountain Observatory of Atmospheric Process Physics (VGO FAP), located at the high mountain research site in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. Also in 2022, joint seismological research of RS RAS and the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic continued.

   The most urgent problem of modern science is to ensure continuity, training of highly qualified scientific personnel and popularization of scientific activity among young people. Therefore, of great importance for RS RAS is the issue of maintaining communication with universities of Kyrgyzstan. Thus, in 2022 there was a meeting between the heads of RS RAS and the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn, where possible ways of development of the joint laboratory of geophysics, created on the basis of the Faculty of Physics and Electronics of KNU, were discussed. In May-June 2022 the RS RAS staff took part in the state attestation commissions for certification of graduates of Kyrgyz HEIs, and in summer for training and practical training. The research station hosted students of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University and the American University of Central Asia.


   On November 10, 2022, the Russian House in Bishkek hosted a meeting of the Round Table "Earth Sciences. The problem of studying dangerous natural processes in the lithosphere of the Tien-Shan: current state and prospects". The Round Table, timed to the World Science Day and held on the threshold of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was organized by the Research Station of the RAS in Bishkek with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Kyrgyz Republic. The participants of the Round table discussed the current status of various aspects of the study of dangerous natural processes of the Tien Shan lithosphere and possible ways to improve their monitoring.


   Traditionally, in the spring of 2022 (April 27-29) the XIV International Conference of Young Scientists and Students "MODERN TECHNIQUES AND TECHNOLOGIES IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH" was held at the RS RAS. More than 70 young scientists from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Russia. Recall that the main objectives pursued by the Research Station RAS within this annual event are to increase the level of scientific research and expand the scientific horizons of young scientists and students, integration of science and education, development of creative activity of scientific youth, and popularization of scientific research conducted at the RS RAS.


   Note that 2024 will be a jubilee year for the Russian Academy of Sciences, which will celebrate its 300th anniversary.

   We would like to draw your colleagues' attention that within the framework of the 300th anniversary of RAS in 2024 the Research Station of RAS plans to organize and conduct two international scientific events: IX International Symposium "Problems of Geodynamics and Geoecology of Intracontinental Orogens" (June 2024) and XVI International Conference of young scientists and students "Modern Techniques and Technologies in Scientific Research" (April 2024).

   This year, 2023, on the threshold of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the XV International Conference of Young Scientists and Students " Techniques and Technologies in Scientific Research " (April 2023) and the Round Table "Earth Sciences. The problem of studying dangerous natural processes in the lithosphere of the Tien Shan: current state and prospects" (November 2023). The planned activities are also timed to the 45th anniversary of Research Station of RAS in Bishkek.
